Didactic and Hands-on Tutorial by a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer & Registered Nurses.

Duration

4 Hour Session (2-hours Didactic & 2-hours Hands-On)
Includes lunch or dinner depending on the time of day the course is scheduled.

Course Overview

EndoBronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) has emerged as an important new imaging modality in thoracic and pulmonary medicine and is considered the ‘gold standard’ in Lung Cancer staging. This program is designed to provide nurses and/or respiratory therapists and other key stakeholders with a thorough understanding of bronchoscopy procedures and an update of the most recent advances in endosonographic technology and equipment. A step-by-step guide to assisting and preparing for both Linear and Radial EBUS procedures will also be discussed. Hands-on demonstration will be provided through a number of stations utilizing Olympus ultrasound processors, bronchoscopes, echoendoscopes, miniprobes, guide sheath kit, and needles used in FNA procedures.

Learning Objective

  • Identify the role of nurses and/or RT and associates involved with bronchoscopy and EBUS procedures.
  • Review the pulmonary anatomy, physiology and pathology as related to EBUS.
  • Discuss the physics of ultrasound as it relates to echoendoscopes and bronchoscopy.
  • Demonstrate proper procedure room and scope set-up for EBUS procedures.
  • Demonstrate proper use of diagnostic and therapeutic accessories.
  • Demonstrate proper care and handling along with reprocessing procedures.

Certification

Nurses may claim this course for 3.5 ours of continuous learning (CL) activity.
