Course Overview

This course is designed to provide Nurses and Technologists with a thorough update of the most recent advances in endosonographic technology and equipment. The course will provide an overview of the physics of ultrasound as it relates to echoendoscopes for GI and pulmonology applications. A step-by-step guide will be provided on how to prepare the room and equipment for the procedure and the Nurses and Technologists roles in performing the procedure. The course consists of a didactic and hands-on training on the ultrasound processor, EUS/EBUS endoscopes, miniprobes, needles and other devices used for the procedure.

Learning Objective

  • Identify the role of Nurses and Technologists involved with EUS/EBUS procedures.
  • Review the gastrointestinal anatomy and physiology related to EUS/EBUS.
  • Discuss the physics of ultrasound as it relates to echoendoscopes for GI and bronchoscopy.
  • Hands-on demonstration will be provided through a number of stations.
  • Demonstrate proper procedure room and scope set-up for the EUS/EBUS procedures.
  • Demonstrate proper needle set-up and cytology slide preparation.
  • Demonstrate proper handling and reprocessing procedures necessary for patient ready scopes.


Nurses may claim this course for 7 hours of continuous learning (CL) activity.
